Welcome New Smoking Policy at Disney Theme Parks

The Disney community is abuzz this morning with news of a new smoking policy at Disney theme parks, coming into effect on May 1, 2019.

Effective that date, all smoking, including vaping, will be prohibited within the boundaries of all Walt Disney World and Disneyland theme parks. This includes:

At Walt Disney World Resort:

  • Magic Kingdom Park
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • EPCOT
  • Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon
  • Disney’s Blizzard Beach
  • ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

At Disneyland Resort:

  • Disneyland Park
  • Disney California Adventure
  • Downtown Disney

Designated smoking areas will still be available on Disney property, but they will be located outside the entrances to the areas listed above and at Disney Springs. For guests who have room or dining reservations, smoking areas will also continue to be available at Walt Disney World Resort value, moderate and deluxe hotels.

Questions and Comments about this Smoking Policy at Disney Theme Parks:

I’ve seen a few comments or questions floating around the internet this morning, which I thought would be useful to address:

My mother is 70 years old. Will she still be required to leave the park to have a cigarette?
Yes, she will. Smoking will no longer be permitted inside the Disney theme parks.

Can I still vape at the parks?
No. Those guests who wish to vape will be required to use the designated smoking areas.

I hope we won’t have to walk through a cloud of smoke on the way into Magic Kingdom!
Have a little faith! Disney surely understands that guests will not wish to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke or vapour on their way into the parks. If there’s one thing Disney knows how to do well, it’s moving people. If they don’t want guests subject to cigarette smoke in the parks, they certainly understand folks don’t want to be greeted on property by a group of smokers.

Overall, it seems as though this will be a welcome change for many guests, especially those who suffer from medical conditions such as asthma.

What are your thoughts on this new policy?
